Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience

Minimum three years experience in instructional systems design and educational technology consulting for university-level courses. Demonstrated ability to effectively support faculty in the development, delivery and evaluation of technical curricula. Demonstrated ability to support instructional outcomes through the selection and application of appropriate educational technologies. Demonstrated ability in the production of instructional content into electronic media and managing the delivery of curricula through learning and course management systems. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Principal duties

Become a member of the internationally recognized team at the Department of Engineering Professional Development (EPD) in the College of Engineering. The department annually conducts several hundred technology-oriented continuing education programs in Madison, throughout the U.S. and over the Internet. The individual filling this position will assume primary responsibility for supporting College of Engineering faculty and staff in the design, development, delivery and evaluation of new and existing online degree programs, short (i.e., non-credit) courses, and related programs and services. This individual will be responsible for the pedagogical application and management of design principles and educational technologies in the delivery of programs and services offered through Engineering Professional Development. The selected candidate's principal responsibilities are to: Provide instructional technology consulting support for EPD credit and non-credit online courses, and associated degree/certificate programs (65%) Determine appropriate instructional strategies and e-learning tools to achieve course and program objectives Identify appropriate instructional objectives for e-learning courses and corresponding learning objects, modules, and lessons Support development of course curricula and related instructional materials and the production of learning objects for delivery via synchronous and asynchronous educational technologies and learning media Apply educational research and train faculty in best practices for distance teaching, course management, and use of e-learning tools Assist course faculty and program staff in design and development of course and program Web sites Lead effort to evaluate quality of Web-based courses and degree programs. Work with program faculty and program directors to determine and apply best methods to assess and continuously improve quality of courses and programs. Establish systems and structures to routinely evaluate and measure the quality of course materials Support revision of course materials in response to feedback from students and faculty Identify and assess the merits of new distance technologies and practices for possible inclusion in EPD courses For an overview of EPD non-credit courses, Web-based courses and degree programs, and Credit Courses at a Distance (CCD, see below), view http://epd.engr.wisc.edu/EPDOverview Provide cross-program instructional support to College's distance learning initiatives (20%) Employ instructional systems design concepts and practices in support of the design, development and delivery of Credit Courses at a Distance offered by the College of Engineering. Consult with College of Engineering faculty, staff and students in adoption/adaptation of instructional systems design concepts and practices in the development of College of Engineering courses Support College of Engineering efforts to continually improve the application of instructional systems design concepts and practices in College of Engineering instructional activities. Provide coordination and project management support (15%) Manage instructional design and production activities to meet budget and schedule objectives Coordinate with appropriate faculty, academic and classified staff to provide appropriate levels of instructional design support to achieve learning objectives
